X
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Review by Eric [Zonga]

X. Just one letter accurately describes a coaster that changed Six Flags Magic Mountain. It was in 2002 that Magic Mountain transformed into "The Xtreme Park." But why does X mean much more than just a letter? A prototypical coaster that spins you head over heals while dropping straight down 215 feet at 76 miles per hour. I'd say that describes it.

These days, X doesn't pull in the eight hour waits that it did its first year, but still be prepared to wait over two hours. After the grueling queue, you enter the station where you start to feel the adrenaline pumping. X has one huge station in order to accommodate the 20 foot wide cars. After you load up, the train pulls out of the station and up the lift hill.

The top of X is in experience all to itself. There you are, 200 feet up, looking out over Magic Mountain. Not too bad, but just thinking about what lays ahead is what's torture. You hit the top of the lift, and spin upside down, looking directly at the ground with nothing below you. Yeah, it's an adrenaline rush.

There is nothing as thrilling as that first drop on X. Just you, plummeting down at the earth while you feel like you're going to slip out of the restraint. After hitting the bottom of the drop, you fly into the first raven turn. This is another experience that is just phenomenal. One moment you're at ground level, the next you're floating straight up. It's hard to describe the sensation, but it's a part on this coaster that you'll never forget.

X sends you through a few more hills and turns before you hit another disorientating element. It's a classic barrel roll, except you're flipping head over heals during the inversion. It's another element that is unforgettable. The finale of X is another raven turn but now you're dropping down. You take this part with extreme speed before hitting one more twist and the end of the ride.

When I first got off X, it was the only ride where every single person aboard just started clapping. Overall, X is an unforgettable coaster that will give you a thrill no matter how many times you've been on it. Six Flags Magic Mountain truly separated themselves in the year 2002 as "The Xtreme Park."
