The Coaster Critic has brought back the good old Weekly Topic! Today’s topic is
what was your first roller coaster ride? Quite honestly I’m not quite sure! I was pretty young when I first rode a coaster, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. So I’m going to have to say it was either Big Thunder or the Matterhorn at Disneyland.
Growing up visiting Disneyland every other year, I distinctly remember never wanting to go on the giant “mountain rides.” I was perfectly content with a ride on the train or a circuit on Autopia. But alas, I finally made the plunge:
Big Thunder totally freaked me out because I thought it was going to be a train ride. But when I got to the platform, there was no engineer…no one was driving the train! (Please keep in mind that I was probably five when this happened) So here I am trying to figure out how the train is driven while careening around sharp turns and sudden drops. I was just a misinformed five year old!
As for the Matterhorn, I remember riding the classic sky ride through the Matterhorn and thinking, “you have got to be kidding me!” Of course now the Matterhorn looks like a tiny coaster in comparison to the mega steel coasters of today. But once again, I was probably five!
So what was your first coaster experience? Were you nervous, excited, or terrified? Share below.
