Nitro Review Six Flags Great Adventure By Comet
| Nitro dominates the Movie Town skyline at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson New Jersey. Although it is questionable exactly what section of the park the ride is located in, it is impossible to miss. Standing tall with its yellow, pink, and blue paint job, the ride is so massive that you can't see most of it's course, due to it being buried in a beautiful forest. If you arrive at the park right at opening, or for that fact whenever you arrive at the park, I suggest hitting this ride first. The lines are obviously shorter at the beginning of the day and pick up until late afternoon, but wether the line be 5 minutes or 2 hours, this ride is worth the wait. However, due to the really boring queue area, a 5 minute wait is definitely more convenient. |
When you reach the end of the queue line, there is a flight of stairs. Stay to the left if you want to wait it out for the front or bear right if you want any other row. I would suggest waiting for the front, because due to the quick loading and 4 across seating the line will move faster than you think. Not to mention the front makes the ride twice as good.
The trains you will eventually board, are extremely comfortable, and you are most likely not going to find more comfortable coaster trains in the world.
Onto the ride now. After a turning a drop out of the station and another turning rise you will reach the lift hill. Nitro takes you up rather slowly giving you plenty of time to take in the surrounding forest beauty. When the lifthill is over the train slowly crests the top of the hill.
This is where the front seat is great, you literally hang over the top staring hundreds of feet at the ground for a couple of seconds. It really gets the adrenaline juices pumping.
Ok, now for a great secret about the drop. Put your hands and feet up and you will feel like you are free falling and completely weightless. It's an amazing sensation, and is what makes this ride my favorite one out there.
Right off the drop you will enter a second hill with a turning drop, providing great air. The third hill, is my favorite part of the ride, besides the first drop of course. The reason being, the amount of floater air is absolutely insane. Unfortunately the trim on this hill is getting worse and worse. If you want to avoid the trim I would sit towards the front because you barely notice it there, but as you move towards the back of the train it gets more and more noticable.
Then you enter the hammerhead turnaround rather slowly. This element leads right into yet another airtime hill. If you are seated on the left side there is a bit of a headchopper here, which makes the best seat of the ride, in my opinion, the left seat in the front row.
After this there is a banked turn to the left leading into an intense helix upward. There hasn't been one time out of my 20 times riding Nitro, when I haven't blacked out in this helix, it's really insane. Unfortunately, the helix leads into a mid course brake run, which slows you down a bit for the remainder of the ride which by the way is awesome.
What happens after the brake run is you enter these continuous airtime hills which provide amazing floater air, leading all the way to the final brakerun. If they are running three trains you will most likely experience some stacking on the brake run but it's never too bad.
Ride Experience: 10/10 Theming: 3/10 Overall: 10/10 Comet's Rank: 1
