VALLEJO, CA – Look no further than the Bay Area for snow this year as guests to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom’s Holiday in the Park event can sled down the gigantic Snow Hill, one of the many fun and memorable highlights of the biggest holiday celebration in Northern California. This second annual offering will open weekends beginning Friday, November 28 through Sunday, December 14,and daily from Saturday, December 20 through Sunday, January 4, 2009 (closed December 24 and 25). Themed holiday wonderlands, festive areas with fragrant aromas and sights to behold, holiday wildlife shows and musical extravaganzas, thousands of twinkling lights, plus the nightly tree-lighting ceremony of one of the biggest Christmas trees around are just some of the cherished memories families and friends will create together. The park will transform from Land, Sea and Sky to Land, Sea and SNOW for this annual holiday celebration. Below is a list of the activities, shows and attractions. Main Street Festival of Lights – The entry into the park has never looked more dazzling as structures, from lamp posts to buildings, are festooned with thousands of lights. Guests will make a beeline to one of the biggest Christmas trees around which will be ceremoniously lit in a show hosted by Captain Lee, park ambassador. Christmas Tree Forest – The smell of pine and fir has never been more pronounced after a stroll past rows and rows of this delightful symbol of the holiday season. Candy Cane Lane – Guests can journey through a magical canopy of larger-than-life candy canes, lollipops and other holiday treats. Santa’s Workshop – It’s that special place where all of the magic is created as Santa and Mrs. Claus pause to greet their young guests and pose for holiday photos. Kids should have their wish list ready as Santa will take note. Reindeer Village – All eight of Santa’s reindeer are on hand this season to make new friends and pose for pictures. Toyland - The bigger the better comes to mind as every child’s dream of running through a land of giant toys comes true. See an enormous teddy bear, a gigantic Nutcracker soldier and wrapped gifts and ornaments the size of a refrigerator! They’ve all been specially delivered to the park and during special times, toys will come in life in an amazing holiday show.
Winter Wonderland - Meet the popular Frosty the Snowman and catch his show; join in as snow falls daily.
Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen – What is holiday fare without Christmas cookies? And what better ways to enjoy this sweet treat than to do a little self-decorating with chocolate and marshmallows. Dream Starring Shouka – Shouka makes a splash in this delightful holiday rendition of the killer whale show. A Dolphin Holiday – Atlantic bottlenose dolphins star in their own holiday presentation, in a wondrous showcase of agility and spirit.
Super Spirited Sea Lions Save Christmas – The bad guys are out to eliminate Christmas but are outsmarted and outwitted by clever and daring sea lions. A Toy Box Christmas – toys come to life in this musical stage production that will have the audience singing along.
Scrooge – See how the notoriously disagreeable Scrooge has a change of heart during the holiday season in this amusing performance.
Looney Tunes Xmas Karaoke – Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and others take the stage in this charming Looney Tunes seasonal show.
Storytime with Driver Daniel - Thomas TownSM is the site for holiday storytelling, as kids will be mesmerized by enchanting tales of Thomas the Tank Engine’s™ adventures.
Nightly Parade – Enjoy this dazzling spectacle of lights during this nightly parade of themed floats.
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony – Every evening, the spectacular lights of the park’s 80-foot tree are turned on in ceremonial fashion, hosted by park ambassador Captain Lee. Local Performances – Live and local carolers, choirs and bands will play each night of Holiday in the Park at various locations throughout the park.
Outdoor Fire Pits – Warm up by these cozy fire pit stations and share in true togetherness with friends and family.
Meet the Looney Tunes Gang – Take a photo with Looney Tunes characters decked out in holiday attire.
Rides – Guests can enjoy many of their favorite rides, kids’ play areas and roller coasters during the event. These include roller coasters Tony Hawk’s Big Spin, Roar, Medusa, Kong and Cobra; rides such as Hammerhead, Wave Jumper, Wave Swinger and the Go Carts, plus the Looney Tunes Seaport and Thomas Town.
Tastes of the Season - In addition to the holiday happenings, guests can also enjoy a wide variety of holiday fare, including roasted chestnuts, hot cocoa, eggnog, hot apple cider and yummy desserts.
