The California’s Great America and San Francisco 49ers story continues. The city of Santa Clara has sent a letter to Great America stating that they don’t need the park’s consent to construct the proposed 49ers football stadium. The city claims that in the lease with the park, they need to maintain a certain number of parking spaces. Therefore by building a parking garage there would still be the specified number of spaces. Both the city and Great America have commented that they want to come to a mutal agreement. The article also mentions that Cedar Fair has still not ruled out selling the park. Read more here. Update 5/12: FireFall, the park's new top spin flat ride, is now scheduled to open on Saturday, May 17th.

Hershey Park’s new coaster Fahrenheit is now in the testing phases. The train seems to have made its way very slowly through the course, but I’m sure that will make for great hang time in the Norwegian loop. It’s exciting to be seeing all these photos and videos of parks across the country getting ready for the summer season! View the Fahrenheit testing video here.

| The Six Flags first quarter financial numbers are in and it seems as though the company is still improving. The conference call is an interesting listen if you’re into the corporate side of amusement parks, but it’s also entertaining to hear about the future of the parks. For instance, it sounds like Thomas Town will be coming to more parks in 2009 and possibly even Bob the Builder themed areas. Not much else news in regards to new attractions, but times sure are looking better for Six Flags! |
Listen to the Q1 conference call here.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom has announced that they will be slashing their prices for the 2008 season. An online ticket is now only $24.99, the lowest cost for any Six Flags park. Kentucky Kingdom is also slashing their season pass price to just $39.99! We’ve already seen Six Flags Magic Mountain cut prices and now Kentucky Kingdom. It makes me wonder if we’ll continue to see prices drop as the economy slows. Read more here.
