The Chance Toboggan was a short lived coaster concept that was introduced in the 1970s. There were about twenty operating around the globe at one time, today there are three. The concept of the ride doesn’t look like much fun at all, quite painful to be honest.

It’s no wonder that most of the Chance Toboggan’s operated for just a couple of years before closing. For example, Swamp Buggy at AstroWorld in Houston, Texas operated from 1970-1971. At least it had nicer theming than any other Chance Toboggan!

Be sure to check out more photos from AstroWorld 1971 over at Coaster101.

Has anyone actually been on one of these?

Yes, I've been on one and it was fun. It's not a bad ride at all. The author
here obviously has never been on one. The ride was meant to be PORTABLE yet pack
the thrills of real roller coaster. I'd say that it does this very well.

I've seen two of these in GB alone, so I suspect that there are more than 3
still operating. They are certainly portable; one usually turns up at the annual
Hoppings on Newcastle Town Moor. A great ride, but you do hit your head.

I actually rode the Swampbuggy as a child. The ride was more commonly referred
to as "The Tree" or "The Tree Trunk". My memories of it are
vague. However I rode one like at Stewart Beach Park as a teenager in Galveston
and once at a traveling carnival here in my hometown of Baytown. The ride was
fun actually. I think with a little modifications a modern version could be
built.
