Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is officially open for the 2009 season! This season the park has a lot of new entertainment and attractions lined up including Odin’s Temple of the Tiger, the Starburst Summer Concert Series, Q-bot Flashpass system, a new Johnny Rockets location, and the addition of Cold Stone Creamery to the park’s funnel cake shop. For more information on what’s new at the park in 2009, click here. The park is also launching a new effort called Discover Going Green. The sustainability effort is aimed at reducing waste, saving electricity, using more environmentally friendly products, and continuing their extensive recycling program. Spare the Air and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission will be on hand, every weekend through the end of March, to inform guests on ways to reduce pollution and save money by using public transportation. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has also launched an official Facebook page. With all of the park’s animals and interactive programs, I’m sure there will be plenty of neat features coming to the Facebook page! For more information visit sixflags.com/discoverykingdom.

Painting has been completed for Carolina Cobra at Carowinds. The park’s Boomerang coaster, relocated from defunct Geauga Lake, is scheduled to open this spring.
In addition to the new paint, Carolina Cobra will be receiving new trains. The restraints will feature a vest style restraint that is seen on Vekoma flying coasters. Hopefully the new train and restraint system will give this Boomerang coaster a pleasant ride. View all the photos here.
