Hard Rock Park is officially open! The Myrtle Beach rock and roll theme park will have a month long celebration head lined by the Eagles on June 2nd. You can view photos of the Hard Rock Park at RollerCoaster Pro. Read the press release here.

Tony Hawk’s Big Spin at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is closing in on its opening day as the ride nears completion. The Vallejo Times Herald has an interesting article about the construction of the ride that you can read here. (Please note the wonderful person they have quoted in the article!) Tony Hawk’s Big Spin is set to open on May 23rd. The park will also be holding Coasters After Dark on the night of May 23rd from 7-10 PM. This season pass holder only event will give riders the first chance at Tony Hawk night rides! Construction for Kings Island’s rumored B&M hyper coaster has taken an unexpected turn. What appears to be a water splash down has been formed where Swan Lake once resided. This begs the question, is this a hyper coaster or a dive machine coaster? Other B&M dive machines such as Griffon at Busch Gardens Europe have a splash down that resembles the one being constructed at Kings Island. View the photos here.

The California’s Great America and San Francisco 49ers story continues. The city of Santa Clara has sent a letter to Great America stating that they don’t need the park’s consent to construct the proposed 49ers football stadium. The city claims that in the lease with the park, they need to maintain a certain number of parking spaces. Therefore by building a parking garage there would still be the specified number of spaces. Both the city and Great America have commented that they want to come to a mutal agreement. The article also mentions that Cedar Fair has still not ruled out selling the park. Read more here. Update 5/12: FireFall, the park's new top spin flat ride, is now scheduled to open on Saturday, May 17th.

Hershey Park’s new coaster Fahrenheit is now in the testing phases. The train seems to have made its way very slowly through the course, but I’m sure that will make for great hang time in the Norwegian loop. It’s exciting to be seeing all these photos and videos of parks across the country getting ready for the summer season! View the Fahrenheit testing video here.
